monster lead me home
sara hartman
Spin around, round, round me Collide without a sound Caught up in your gravity I don't know how Run away, way, way from me The spirit only I can see I need you now 'cause I don't know how I don't know what, what I was afraid of, I was afraid of
Monster take me somewhere Where I can save my breath in the end We walk in shadow Monster lead me home Where there is no place to hide Stranger on the other side We walk in shadow Monster lead me home Monster lead me home
Now you surround, round, round me Didn't think I could be found Before we tear through the streets Don't test the ground A long way, way, way from comfort Keep our back to the cold I need you now 'cause I don't know how I don't know what, what I was afraid of, I was afraid of
Monster take me somewhere Where I can save my breath in the end We walk in shadow Monster lead me home Where there is no place to hide Stranger on the other side
TORIEL
Children are knives, my mother once said. They don’t mean to, but they cut.
Frisk's adoptive mother from the Underground. Early on in their journey, Toriel showed Frisk a love and tenderness that stayed with them throughout their time in the Underground and beyond; if they hadn't been so determined to leave, they could have easily built a happy life with her. Unfortunately, she died by their hand in the second timeline... and although they managed to set things right in the final attempt, the damage had been done.
This Toriel hails from the second timeline, and with her, every mistake that Frisk has been unable to turn a blind eye to. Her initial, fearful rejection of Frisk hurt them deeply, the first taste of what would become a full spectrum of consequences, and their unwillingness to approach the woman whom they'd taken everything from left the both of them in deep estrangement and loneliness. However, thanks to the intervention of Sans, Toriel's kind heart encouraged her to make small allowances for Frisk - eventually culminating in their reconciliation, when Frisk braved the dangers of the castle to assist in rescuing her when she'd been separated from the safe areas. Toriel and Frisk now share a bond of trust as full as before, built on love and the knowledge that the other will come in their time of need.
Even still, Toriel doesn't know that Frisk is from multiple timelines, including the one she came from - the one where they struck her down at her most vulnerable. Frisk is desperate to protect her from this knowledge, as well as any whisperings of the truth concerning themself, Chara, and Asriel. All they truly want for her is for her to be happy with the children she loved and lost so long ago.
All I feel is emptiness here Searching for what you want me to say I'm terrified by their eyes when they stare This loneliness won't go away
Your eyes say so much to me Your eyes say so Your eyes say so much to me Your eyes say so
Nobody knows who I am I've got intentions of gold with my plans Nobody knows who I am I've got intentions of gold with my plans
I've realized nothing I do feels right Lost in my head and out of sight Dreaming of the day when I leave And what the world has left for me
Your eyes say so much to me Your eyes say so Your eyes say so much to me Your eyes say so
Nobody knows who I am I've got intentions of gold with my plans Nobody knows who I am I've got intentions of gold with my plans
SANS THE SKELETON
Every lover is, in his heart, a madman; and, in his head, a minstrel.
A very special monster with a very special place in Frisk's soul. Literally.
Sans is many things at once to them, a whirlwhind of contradictions - he is their judge and their executioner, yet he is their guardian and family; his SOUL is a fragile thing even by monster standards, yet it resonates with a power enough to find the melody of Frisk's; he can be distant and closed-off, yet effusively warm like golden sunlight. Sans is difficult for Frisk to read, even harder to predict, and at no time was this more prevalent than when he discovered they came from a doomed timeline. Where Frisk expected a sharp denial, like Toriel's, instead they found a strained but sincere attempt from Sans to reconcile their actions with the child he knew.
Over time, the injury to their relationship repaired; Frisk found acceptance from their judge and executioner, and has slowly come to believe that Sans' interest in them is from a place of genuine love and not mere fear of the anomaly. Sans has proven again and again that he cares, despite claims he doesn't remember making from a timeline he didn't live. Frisk has thrown their determination into maintaining the flicker of hope they see still struggling to exist in Sans - part of this process involved learning Soul Resonance in an attempt to keep him from Falling Down, and aside from their Partner, Sans remains one of the most powerful connections Frisk has formed on a soul-deep level. His complicated relationships with Toriel and Chara, two other people of great importance to Frisk, only deepens their concern for his emotional state and belief in his sincerity.
Sans is perhaps the person Frisk trusts most in the world, because he accepts them without fully understanding them, loves them while acknowledging that they've done terrible things. He's their hero in many ways, their responsibility in some others - but he's family, as much as he's accepted them as part of his, and though he mirrors someone else in enough ways for fear to color the periphery of their trust.
Sans' shadow has recently revealed what Frisk always figured: he doesn't fully trust them not to Reset. That's OK. They don't, either. That's why they're going to make sure it's one mistake he'll never be forced to love them through.
Blank faces Here we are staring at these Blank pages
How did the plans we drew Disappear in thin air Now all that's left are Two blank faces I know we let gold fade to black Give me time enough to bring us back
'Cause I've been pouring my whole life in you Trying to resurrect the LOVE we grew Yeah, we're both confused But I'll keep pouring my whole life into These broken roots
Frustrated We feel the cracks within our foundation That's why I'm digging every Day and night Night and day Swear I won't stop So please keep waiting

CHARA DREEMURR
I know. I was there. I saw the great void in your soul, and you saw mine.
Frisk's Partner. In many, many things.
Frisk and Chara have walked endless timelines in a single pair of shoes, and with the responsibilities of the Underground and surface alike bearing down on them, they've formed a kind of connection that transcends the traditional angel-demon tale. To call their relationship complicated, even co-dependent, would be a grave understatement; Frisk and Chara operate on a wavelength that can only be achieved by two SOULS that have existed as one. While they don't hail from the same timeline group, their bond remains unaffected - it may perhaps even be accurate to say that it's more powerful than ever, chosen rather than jumbled together on a bed of golden flowers.
Chara is a critical part of Frisk's identity - not only because they've literally shared a SOUL, but because their parallels run in channels far beyond. They've shared a mother, a great burden, a decision shaped by determination; a journey up a mountain for reasons that weren't very happy. Chara's physical presence in the castle, where Frisk had once only known the tortured essence of a SOUL that latched onto theirs, allowed Frisk the opportunity to learn about the person it once belonged to. To Frisk, Chara is their Partner, and the being that still takes up space inside them is -- still just them.
Frisk worries for Chara, but doesn't push for the golden ending they desperately try to maintain for everyone else. The ending awaiting them both lies in a place far beyond the reach of what Frisk wants for others - it isn't as simple as sliding themselves into a picture of their smiling friends, where everyone looks happy. Their future is dark, yet darker, bleak.

City of broken souls
Swallow the hope just to survive
Looking for frozen gold
Follow the rope back to the light
Forgive me now
That I'm about to play the optimist
And shake a dream awake
And take a risk
Hey do you, do you
Believe we still got time
For streetlight fairytales?
If you do, I do
Believe these stars align
For streetlight fairytales
Believe these stars align
For streetlight fairytales
Too many bloodless days
Holding the breath back in your lungs
But what if it's not too late?
What if the best was yet to come
Well maybe it's an empty wish
A prayer to sooth the pain
But I can see the signs tonight could change
Forever
Hey do you, do you
Believe we still got time
For streetlight fairytales?
If you do, I do
Believe these stars align
For streetlight fairytales
Believe these stars align
